Why your cookie banner can reduce recovered leads
Why your cookie banner can reduce recovered leads
If your cookie banner or consent manager blocks Pipeline On, recovered lead volume can be lower than total website traffic.
That does not always mean the tag is broken. It may mean your consent rules are doing exactly what you configured them to do.
Why this happens
Many consent tools block analytics, marketing, attribution, and lead identification scripts until a visitor accepts non-essential tracking.
If a visitor rejects cookies, ignores the banner, or visits from a region where your banner blocks tracking by default, Pipeline On may not run for that visit.
Common signs
You may see:
- Google Analytics or ad platform traffic higher than Pipeline On recovered leads
- The Pipeline On tag firing only after consent is accepted
- Lower match volume from privacy-focused browsers
- Fewer recovered leads from regions with stricter consent rules
- Test visits not appearing when you reject the cookie banner
How to test it
Open your website in a private browser window and try both paths:
- Reject or ignore the cookie banner, then check whether the Pipeline On tag fires.
- Accept the cookie banner, refresh the page, then check whether the Pipeline On tag fires.
If the tag only fires after consent, your consent manager is controlling Pipeline On.
What to ask your web team
Ask:
- Which consent category controls the Pipeline On tag?
- Does that category run before or after visitor consent?
- Is Pipeline On blocked in any states, countries, or browser privacy modes?
- Are ad blockers or script blockers affecting test results?
- Does the tag fire on every page where we want recovered leads?
What to do next
If the consent behavior is intentional, no technical fix is needed. Your recovered lead volume will reflect your privacy setup.
If the tag is blocked by mistake, move Pipeline On into the correct consent category and test again.
If the tag still does not fire after consent is accepted, use the install troubleshooting guide or contact support.
