What to say if a homeowner asks how you got my info
Sometimes a homeowner may ask how your business got their information.
Keep the answer simple, honest, and non-technical. Do not argue.
Short answer
"We use marketing tools to help us follow up with homeowners who may be looking for service in our area. If you do not want us to contact you, I can remove you from our follow-up list."
If they ask if you tracked them
Use calm, plain language:
"Our website and marketing tools help us understand interest from homeowners in our service area. I can remove you from our follow-up list if you prefer."
Do not say:
- "We watched your session."
- "We saw exactly what you did."
- "We bought your data."
- "Our pixel found you."
If they are upset
Say:
"I understand. I will mark this so we do not follow up again. You can also contact us at {{support_or_privacy_email}} if you want a privacy request reviewed."
Then stop selling.
What to record
Record:
- Homeowner name.
- Contact method.
- Request type.
- Date.
- Staff member.
- Whether they asked for no contact, deletion, or more information.
Privacy requests should be escalated to the account owner or privacy contact.
