Repeat visitors and duplicate households
Repeat visitors and duplicate households
A homeowner may visit your site more than once, use multiple devices, or appear through multiple household signals.
That can create repeat or similar recovered leads.
Why duplicates happen
Duplicates can happen when:
- The same person returns later.
- A spouse or household member visits separately.
- The visitor uses a different browser or device.
- The CRM already has a matching customer record.
- Address, email, or phone data differs across sources.
How to handle duplicates
Use your CRM as the final system of record.
Recommended matching order:
- Email.
- Phone.
- Full name and address.
- Address and service history.
- Manual review.
Do not overwrite good data blindly
If the CRM already has a customer, avoid replacing verified phone, email, or service address fields automatically.
Better options:
- Add a note.
- Create a task.
- Attach the page visited.
- Update only blank fields.
- Send uncertain matches to manual review.
When repeat visits are useful
Repeat visits can be a buying signal.
A homeowner who comes back to replacement, financing, quote, or emergency pages may be more urgent than a one-time blog visitor.
